02 LS6 cam on the way! Bigger is better as far as I can tell. At least within my criteria (must idle 100% smooth, be 100%drivable and take minimal tuning to get it dialed in.) I only had a couple minutes to mess with desktop dyno but it looked like this cam makes an a$$ load more power than stock all the way through. Ain't but one way to tell and that's to put it in and see! It will probably be at least 2 weeks before it is alive again and it will be 100 degrees with 99% humidity by then.

I will be using this cam in my new motor. I will let ya'll know how it works out. I think it will work great.
New motor? Did I miss something? I know you have a brand new 6L in there as it is. Did you have another misfortune?

I've been away for a couple of days, I can speak to the ls-6 cam in a 5.3L w/ Radix S/C. this is what I have in my suburban, the set up works very good, currently I am running stock manifolds w/ a cat back and I also have 02 LS-6 cylinder heads. there are only two issues I have encountered. I still haven't dialed out a cold start stumble, before the engine is up to temp I've got a tip in stumble. I'm currently trying stuff in edit, Its better but not gone. Once up to temp everything is fine. 2. the cam and cylinder heads are outrunning the blower right now with stock manifolds I getting an initial boost of 6.7psi but from torque peak to hp peak and beyond the boost is running down to 5.7psi when I add the headers I'll probably drop another .5to.75psi of boost. I talked w/ the guys at magnuson and they said to expect 7psi on a stock 5.3L When I explained my set up they said the same thing and they are sending a 3.1 pulley to bring the boost back up to the 7-7.5psi range. currently I am at 335hp/378lbft. torque at the rear wheels on a mustang chassis dyno. the stock #'s were 213hp on a dynojet but the dynojet and mustang #'s don't transfer directly across to each other. Usually the mustangs read 11% lower than dynojets. I have been planning to run the burb on the same dynojet I ran originally but I haven't gotten around to it .

Thanks for the info, Flem. I figure I was at about 425 at the wheels so I am hoping with the cam and maybe a couple other tweaks I will be around 450. How is your gas mileage? Some of the guys over on the engine forum are saying the LS6 cam is awesome for economy compared to the aftermarket cams.

I did a 375 mile round trip drive on memorial day monday a mix of country roads and highway and I averaged 16.85 mpg in burb and it a 4wd. this is exactly the same a when it was stone stock. I going to use the mustang for my reference dyno #s I want to get to 380hp @ the wheels I'm hoping the headers AS&M or FLP's + 3.1" pulley and a cold air induction will get me there.

From what I understand people are making good power with the LS6 cam, but the power comes in too high. I have a stock LS1 out of a vette, and I think the LSA is 15.5 or 16.5. I can really feel the power start coming on in the upper RPMS. I would bet the LS6 cam would be even higher. If that is the cam you want you could have it made on a 114 LSA and not woory about idle issues. www.htownracing.com has 2 cams in thier forsale are 1. Comp Cam 218/224 .529/.535 114 2.215/221 .530/.530 114 +4 Comp Cam Custom Grind Both are good NOS and blower cams.

BigTex, here are the numbers that I have found for those cams:
2000 LM7 192/190 .455/.456 115lsa
2001 LS6 204/218 .525/.525 116lsa
2002 LS6 204/217 .551/.547 117lsa

The 2002 LS6 cam has 2 degrees retard ground into it. Retarding a cam moves its power band up in the rpm range. It also has smaller base circles on the cam lobes than the '01 LS6 cam because of the taller valves used in the '02 LS6 cylinder heads. Any pushrod issues??? not sure.

I run a Crane 208/216 .500/.500 113lsa cam with the Whipple and AS&M headers and see a max of just under 5.5psi. I could not tell you any difference in cams with the blower as I added the blower after the cam swap. (This is not the best blower cam though) The lobe seperation is too close and I think boost may be vented because there is a lot of scavenging with this cam. I think if I had the money to spend on another cam I would go with something like the '01 LS6 cam; however, other "cooler" projects on the truck are spending my $ now
