Default Ls2 > lq4

You can use the LS2 shortblock and its plug and play with the LQ4 truck engines right?

Is everything in the same spots? Crank sensor? 24x reluctor wheel? Knock sensors?

Got a buddy in Houston with a LS2 shortblock out of (I think) an 05 corvette but im not 100% on that.
I thought it would be a good idea to swap in a forged crank, rods and pistons and toss it in the truck in place of the LQ4 to have a better foundation for future mods as well as cut weight. I know a 2500hd 4x4 crew is an elephant, but knocking 90lbs off the front is better than nothing. I might even get stuck less!

I just want to make sure that if I wanted to just put my 317 heads on this thing and bolt it directly in the truck that everything would plug/bolt right up as if I had never swapped to the aluminum block.

most everything should bolt up, but its a gen 4 engine, not gen3 so a few things will be different. Can't remember off the top of my head, but IIRC its a 48x not 24x.

though the 05 ( maybe 04 ) has the 24x reluctor wheel, there still modifications that need to be done, like the crank sensor is in the front, knock sensors are on the side of the block and so forth. its alittle more than plug and play.

if ya decide youre not interested shoot me a pm on who has it and whats he asking for it

I thought it was only a 40# difference between the alum blocks and iron blocks.

Edit: seems theres several numbers floating around. Anywhere from 55-85# difference.

115lbs between a Iron 6.0L and LS1 block. Ls2 is a little thicker alum so prob ~100lbs.

You getting it for free and installing it yourself? All you'd have is basically an aluminum LQ9. A lot of work for just a minimal gain.

If it were me, roots style s/c on the lq4. It's a great stock platform for boost.

He probably doesn't need the box if his LS2 came out of an '05 vette. Somewhere after that they changed to the 58 tooth, but I'm pretty sure all of the '05's had the 24. One of the connectors on the side of the block changed colors when they changed wheels. The darker connector denoted one and ligher the other. Just don't remember which connector and which color.....

well, I would go ahead and put a cam in it and bolt on a set of ported heads, then just put on my intake. I would just use the stock crank/rods/pistons and bump a hone through it and re-ring it if I was just going to stay N/A. The stock parts can hang 500 and then some without losing sleep at night.

If I seriously wanted to boost it (and im plotting...) then I would stay with the iron block due to the strength and rigidity. Im sure the LS2 is strong, but I would rather keep the iron block and disregard the 90lbs.

Im seriously considering a D1SC procharger.
