None of the stock cams with vvt, afm or a mix of the two will give you any gain to even waste the money on.
Keeping the vvt would become the biggest issue for you as 2 of our customers recently decided to keep the vvt vs what we recommended and their "tuners" arent capable of tuning vvt correctly so their cams peak early and perform like crap.

I kept the VVT in my L9H when i swapped in
a Comp cam, my tuner had NO PROB dyno tuning
my truck. makes power to 6600-6800rpm. 210/224 @.050
114 LSA Also plenty of low end grunt to tow my trailer.
I'm thinking of putting my stock L9H cam in my LH9 5.3 HO
just for the hell of it. mite help the 799 heads breathe better.
The 5.3 is on an eng stand since the swap. last summer.

My trk is a L9H NA. Dyno sheet below. I was off a little
on the RPM range.

If I'm reading that right, the blue cam while making less power had a slightly higher rpm peak, right? The red cam made more power but peaked at what looks like 5600 rpms which is stock shift on my rig. So in essence it brought the power band down some?

On the other end, the beginning of the scale, what does that mean for both cams or pulls? It looks like the red takes longer to make any power but I'll admit I'm not schooled in reading these.

When you say 5.3 HO, don't you mean the L33 Gen III engine? Or do you mean the LH6 Gen IV engine?

Off by quite a bit on the rpm range it seems.

Are the 2 graphs stock vs cammed? or base tune vs fully tuned?
In reference here are the 4 tsp truck cams and their respective graphs the stg2 low and high lift and stg3 low and high lift.
The odd dip at the beginning is from the water brake but you can see quite a bit from it.
Clearly the stg2 makes a bit more low end and the stg3 takes it up in the upper rpm being nearly identical in the mid range.
Also both the high lifts keep the same peak tq rpm and power band down low while carrying a couple hundred rpm above their low lift counterparts.

the blue line was base tune, and the Red
was after he made changes in the tune, it's the
same cam. Tuner just made adj in the VVT
He did the red pull at a little higher rpm.

The 5.3 is a LH9 Gen IV that came in the truck
from the factory, it's what i swapped out.

Thanks for the explanations, I did not know the Colorado had its own LS engine. The L33 was marketed as an HO engine.

The LH9 was a Colorado option for 2010-2012
a lot of people did know of it. It was a VVT but
no AFM/DOD, it also had the 799/243 heads and
new trk int w/87mm tb. all Aluminum. it's a sweet
gen IV factory 5.3 motor.
