Default LS1 Output - 11/03 Motor Trend

Some of you may have already seen this, but I caught the November Motor Trend while the wife and I were shopping (I was supposed to be looking for canned tomatoes), and noticed the outputs listed for the 2004 GM Trucks were up 10HP. Logged onto GMC.com this morning and confirmed:

4.8L 285HP@5600 / 295lb.ft.@4000
5.3L 295HP@5200 / 330lb.ft.@4000

It's definitely a step in the right direction, but I'm looking more forward to the future three-valve LS-1, that's when I'll trade up

I thought it was Ford engines that got 3 valve/cilinder.

Far as 3 valve engines go... why not...... why not wait for solenoid accutated vavle train or fuel cells.... i'm quite impressed with whats already available.

Had seen this link, thought it was on this forum, where GM has a 3-valve pushrod V-8 in the works.

It will first likely be introduced in the Corvette as the Gen IV, and as GM's history has shown us, but the article mentions other Gen IV V-8's and "high value" V-6 product applications. The article also mentions a cam phaser, and quotes a 6.3L Vette motor that puts down 500 HP (Must be setting their sights on the Viper). By the numbers, if they used this same tuning, (which I'm sure they won't, but it's cool to think of) the 5.3L would have an output of 420 HP at 79.36 HP / Liter.
