LS1 and no money
#1
Hi,
Having a huge changeout done on a 93 Extended cab Chevy done. Since I'm converting from TBI to LS1, alot of things are going out and coming in (radiator, fuel lines, fuel pump, wiring harness, etc) not to mention....oh yeah - the engines themselves.
Going with a 99 LS1 with brand new 205cc AFR (4-way CNC port, 59cc, 5-angle valves). Also putting in a Z06 cam with 90mm Throttle body - intake upgrade to come after the install is done. I've read 40hp off of the heads are possible. I have the new heads they were $$
$$ but their really smooth and nice... Have also read the cam is good for between 20 - 30hp itself. Though their are "stronger" cams (i.e. TR224), I'm looking at Emissions closely, along with protecting the 4L60E I have.
Any ideas on the HP I could expect with this combo...I'm guessing 320 - 340...sound right?
Lastly, anyone have any advise on a good cold air setup for making this kind of a swap...since its way out of the norm??
Cool site!!!!
Thanks,
Thomas

I dont see why you wouldnt be dynoing higher than that. I am not totally up on my numbers, but a bolton ls1 a4 I would think would put down around 320-330. With those heads( Im not sure of your compression I imagine its close to stock) and that z06 cam, I would think that 370 wouldnt be far off maybe even more, would also need a good set of headers and a good tune. Through in a bigger cam and 400 wouldnt be far away.

The tranny is a 4L60E, I went ahead with a set of shorty headers (Edelbrock)...I know these might not have been the best, but when you get down to it, if I ordered a set of longtube headers for an LS1 and then tried to put them into the truck, I was unsure if I'd clear the firewall. Of course, I don't need to worry with ground clearance as the ride is still at stock height....
Any ideas on the cold-aire part?
I'm going through LG Motorsports for the tune after the install is done. I'd like to stay just this side of 400HP, the tranny and rear end will live longer....
I figure an LS6 intake would help things...that's what I'm hoping for.....just need the time....truck should be done in about a month if all goes well...
