Default Ls1 Or Ls6 Whick Is It.

I have a little dilemma. I bought a 02 vette engine and installed it in my truck. I thought it was an LS6, but according to my buddy I have a LS1. Could you guys point me in the right direction. I need to know. I want to install a cam and this guy tells me I need to swap springs and reatiners etc. I thought the LS6 heads could handle up to 551 lift or more. I need to get the facts straight. thanks for the help.

It's only an LS6 if it came out of a Z06 Vette.

It came out of a reagular C5. so what would be the specs on this engine. Would I have to swap out the valve springs to put in this cam.220/224 0.551/0.551-114ls. If I do will I have to do any head work. I was also told that the Z06 valve springs wouldnt fit these head and I would have to get them millled.

not sure on the heads and valves, but you will have to atleast run comp 915 springs with that cam, and no head work is nessasary but benifical. i believe the hp/tq #'s were 385/385 or atleast close.

Hell no. No head work needed at all. Stab the cam, install the springs and give her hell. The ZO6 springs will fit the 4.8, 5.3, 5.7 and 6.0.

The LS6 valvesprings will work as will the LS6 cam,but the LS1 heads won't flow as much as a set of LS6 heads. You will need to check your push rod lengths because the LS6 cam has a bigger base circle on the 02 or later cam.

Thanks, I wasnt sure about the springs. Im going to order the cam and springs and titanium retianers. what do you think about this cams.
- comp cams 265/271 212/218 .522/.532 lobe sep. 114
-comp cams 269/273 216/220 .525/.532 lobe sep. 114
Im stuck between these two, which do you think is better, thanks agian. later

02 and later LS6 heads used a longer valve stem to compensate for the different base circle instead of longer push rods.
