So I know there are Camaro forums out there but I think the people on this one way better. So my buddy has an 01 Camaro SS which I have been driving for a month until I can get the right parts for my tranny. So his wife gave him 5K for Christmas to put towards an engine build. His goals are to build a cammed car with a mean rough idle. He is looking to put 600-650hp to the wheels with about a 150 shot of nitrous. Unfortunately 5K is a really crappy amount to have since its enough to buy some good stuff but not enough to finish it. So I think we came to the agreement that he will have to dump the 5K in the bottom end and worry about heads, intake & tb, and nitrous kit at a later date. When he does do the heads he plans on using his stockers with a port and polish job, Fast 102mm tb and intake. Nitrous kit is still TBD.
Here's what we have came up with so far.... let me know what you think
Eagle LSx 4340 Forged Crankshaft 4.00" Stroke (383 Stroker)
Eagle 6.125" Connecting Rods
Wiseco Forged Pistions 3.903" Bore (not sure what size dish to go with yet options are -32cc and -3cc)
Clevite Main & Rod bearings
Federal Mongul LS1 Cam Bearings (78-1888m)
ARP LS1/LS2 Main Stud Kit [234-5608]
N Motion LS1 Billet Double Roller (103-SD7145)

HPE Mega Death Cam 244/242 .612/.610 112lsa or a TSP MS3 237/242 .603"/.609"

I know where you can get a forged 408 w ARP studed mains for just over 2K, and i know someone who is selling a complete LS3 top end and cam for 850.
that would be a pretty stellar set up in a fbody.

That big of a cam with stock heads is a bad choice.
And no way the stock rearend is going to handle anywhere close to that kind of power.
If it were my car I wouldn't touch the bottom end. Id pick out, or get help with picking out, a good head/cam combo. I'd go with at least a ls6 intake. Probably keep an eye out for a used fast 90. If it's in the budget go ahead with a 102. 1-7/8 LT to a full 3" exhaust. Then look at a 12 bolt rear end.
Stick or auto? Either or, it's going to need work to handle any decent amount of power. Also want to look into suspension. But I'd do that last.
