If it's a "no-cost" upgrade, how is it not worthwhile??
I agree with you, there are some small gains(10-15 rwhp), and 95% of the time it's a super cheap upgrade.

The problem I see is that when you open up your engine there are many things that can go wrong. I had my oil pump randomly fail when I did my cam swap. That turned into a nightmare when the swap took about 40 hours and a week of work.

I supposed you have to ask yourself it it's worth the chance for such a small gain. For me it isn't and I know for most it isn't worth it either.

You can get a used cam/springs/pushrods for $350 or cheaper so I would go that route 10 out of 10 times over a $50 or cheaper ls1 cam.

If it happened as a result of your cam swap, then it wasn't random (i.e. something happened to it during the swap). If it was random, then it would have failed cam swap or no cam swap.

I say swap in the 2000 LS1 cam. It will almost give you 20 degrees more exhaust duration than your current cam which should be a nice upgrade.

The point of it was I didn't do anything to it specifically when installing the cam. I'm not an idiot.

It was probably just coincidental. I know the 98 and/or 99 ls1's had problems with oil pumps going out so the 99 trucks probably had similar issues. Remember, once you start modding anything can and will go wrong at any time. Hell, no less than 4 hours after I had my 4.10s and trutrac put in I went out to go give it a break in drive and BAM.....truck just dies. I thought for sure the rear end locked up/something was installed wrong. Nope, fuel pump **** a brick out of the blue. Point of the story is, **** happens

That might give you an idea as to what your dealing with.
Good post!

That 01 Zo6 cam advanced 4~6* might be worth the effort.

I honestly don't think all the work to swap cams (remove all the rockers, pull off the balancer, the front cover, waterpump, loosen A/C bracket, etc.) is worth a measily 10-15 hp.

I say find a used nitrous kit .. you can spray a 75 shot and be really really happy with the gains

I run an 01 ls6 cam and love it! I installed it straight up, and it pulls nicely to 6200. It cost me a total of 200 bucks to put it in, that was with an oil change and coolent. It dosent put super numbers down, but I'm no dyno racer. I'm sure I can squeak a 13.8 out of it how she sits and thats all on 87. So was it worth it? Hell yes!

Cant wait to put in my 2006 e-fans and a cut out.

Yes, an LS6 cam, not an LS1 cam.
