Default LS1/6 Swap into 5.3L ECSB...

Ok, today I got ahold of a Chilton manual for my truck and started flipping through it. I was looking at the engine rebuild pages and noticed that the V8 truck engines are pretty much EXACTLY like the LS1/6 engines. I am an LS1/6 guru and as far as I can tell the only major difference between the 5.3L and the LS1 is the bore of the block. So what's stopping more of you guys from swapping in LS1 engines? The covers, oil pan, heads all look identical with the same bolt patterns and what not. A used LS1 shortblock can be had for around $500. Just swap over covers and heads and you're good to go. Of course while your at it you might as well bump up and cam and heads but it seems to me that it would be a pretty cheap way to get another 50hp or so. So why aren't more of you guys doing this, or am I missing a large piece of the puzzle? Thanks!

I think it is a great swap. Txsilverado and many other members on here have swapped the LS1 in with great results. The weight savings from the aluminum block alone is a nice benefit. Should have a 13 sec. truck pretty easy with good tuning and supporting mods. I think most use a 6.0 truck engine because they are easy to get and less expensive.

show me where you can find an ls1 shortblock for $500 and I'll show a picture of my engine bay in 2 weeks with an ls1 engine swap.

LS1tech... I saw one for $250 the other day. I put up mine for sale for $400 before I decided to keep it and put it back into the Camaro.
