Default LS-1 Engine Swap Complete...

Well the 04 Vette engine is in. No tuning yet, won't get that till tomorrow. This thing has hellacious top end!! Still spits and sputters but it will be pretty wicked once it's tuned...

Wow, TxSquezze4.8, you have a NICE truck. I love black RCSB trucks. It must look awesome with the shackles and the American Racing RT-S wheels. Do you have any pics? Someday when I get tired of the 5.3, I'll swap in a LQ9 or a LS1.

Why swap in the LS1 in place of a 4.8 or 5.3? Why not just bore the 4.8/5.3 block to 99mm and buy a set of LS1 pistons for much cheaper??? Is it just because you don't want to do the shortblock assembly or what?

Cool, any advice you can give on the swap. I just picked up a LS1 for my truck also. Mine's just a shortblock though. How much tunning do you have currently. I plan on adding a camming mine, so I think it may be hard for it to run till I get it tuned.

Down time is probably a big factor. Not to mention the 5.7 is 100 lbs lighter than the iron blocks.

I am exactly on board with this statement.I paid $80 for a set of 6K mile 5.7 piston rods rings mint. I have a set of clean 20k mile Ls1 heads i paid $175 shipped.I will be $225-$250 into boring the 5.3

If I could have stole a cherry 5.7 longblock for $650 to my door then i would have thought different

Good on both counts. I thought of those right after typing my response. But still, the money you save you could put into cam, exhaust, forged internals, etc. and be way ahead of the game.
