from everything I can gather they rearranged sensors like knock and cam-crank
all aluminum block and heads, slightly different head design, cam

if you ask me there isnt a big difference they tweaked the lq9-q4 for a performance car and bam ls2

For someone that is gonna mod the engine anyway I dont think it makes sense to go with an ls2 block over the older block. All your asking for is problems and more money with tuning especially since they havent figured out how to tune it without completly shutting off the knock sensors!!!! Talk about scarry

LS2 is aluminum block with relocated knock sensors, cam similar to a LS6,revised intake with 90mm throttle body and more.LS2 rated 400hp and LQ9 rated 345hp.

LS2 is essentially an LS6 with a 4" bore. Some changes to the cooling passages internally, 90mm TB & intake, heads use the LS6 head casting, crankshaft has different reluctor wheel, cam sensor is in front now, and the knock sensors are now mounted on the side of the block. PCM is different, too, hence the compatability issues with the new knock sensors. You can run the LS2 on an LS1 or truck PCM, but there are 2 issues:

1. You must use LS1 or LS6 knock sensors mounted in the side of the LS2 block, and retune their sensitivity in the PCM

2. The crank reluctor must be changed . . . i.e., put an ls1, ls6, truck, or aftermarket stroker crank in the LS2 . . . unless there's a way to tune the older PCMs to account for it? (haven't seen this as a solution yet)

I've been told by 2 sponsors who sell LS2 402 shortblocks that their shortblock is compatible with all of the truck, ls1, or ls6 accessories, except that you must use use the LS2 cam position sensor, timing set, and front cover, which they include with the short block. And, you have to mount ls1 or ls6 knock sensors on the side of the block and retune their sensitivity for the new location . . . Once you do this, they will work fine.

Here's a link with all the info, including the knock sensor work-around.

The reason the question is i wonder what kind of parts it would take to hit the 400 mark and wondred if any of the parts are interchangable. If i remember correctly the LQ9 heads were the same as the LS6 heads with different size combustion chambers. So a head change woludnt yeild great gains unless u went aftermarket or porting? right? thanks for the info and anyone else please chime in. thanks
