I have a few questions as to what parts I should be buying (interchangability??).
I am looking for two things...what parts work without modification and personal experience / knowledge of the parts (what works what doesn't)
Oil Pump - Melling Performance / Melling LS6 / LS6 Ported? Which one?
Timing Chain - LS1 or LS2? Single or Double? Adjustable or Non-adj.?
Gasket Set - Would someone take a look and see if this is 100% complete? This swap is on an 03 LQ9...could someone identify the selections I need to make from the drop dpwn menu?

Just thought of another question, what is involved in changing the oil pump on an AWD SSS? Does the pan have to come off? If so, whats involved in that? That's going to be a big deciding factor in whether or not I change the pump.
This will be a big help, thanks fellas.

i dont see the need in changing these.... how many miles on the motor... and yes you have to drop the pan a little to get to the 10mm bolt on the pick up tube of the oil pump... and get a NEW o ring... ask me how i know you need a new one... hahaha

If you are not putting a cam in it then bide by the old adage if it ain't broke dont fix it. I've had these trucks come in the shop with well over 200K and stock pumps. Some fail early some fail middle and some never fails it's the luck of the draw.

I am putting a cam in, but the problem is that my truck is AWD. I figure that makes it quite a pain in the *** to change the oil pump. It sounds like you know better than me, could you give me some insight into that swap. Thanks man.

Ok then yes go ahead an put in an oil pump. I've always used melling pumps in my own and customers and never had a problem. If you order a new timing chain from gm the LS2 chain is the service replacment part number in their book for the LQ LS truck engines. You can do the oil pump without pulling the pan but you have to be very very very careful not to drop the bolt when taking it out and putting it in and at the same don't cut the pickup tube oring. A gear wrench works best on the OP pickup tube bolt. Be sure to put a dab of gm grey sealer on the bottom corners of the timing cover when you reinstall it or you will have an oil leak.
