Question LQ9 Intake vs LS1 Style Intake

What are the major differences in performance betreen the LS1 style intakes and my current LQ9 intake manifold? Visually I can obviously seen the difference, but I've been told that an LS1 intake would not bolt up to my block/ heads.
What is the truth on all of this?

Jim

1. Yes, the LS1 intake will bolt to your block/heads.
2. The injectors and/or fuel rails from one will not fit the other.
3. The throttle body opening, in relation to the block, is higher on the truck manifold than on the LS1 manifold. This would cause interference if swapped (although, I think there are modifications to get around this.

I think I read something about tests being performed between the truck, LS1 and LS6 intakes. And all things being equal, I believe the truck intake produced more torque than the LS1

I think it's possible to do but requires a bit of modification to work. One issue that I'm sure of is clearance with the water pump, fan, upper idler pulley, and accessories. The LS1/LS6 intake is about 3" shorter than the truck intake, and the throttle body will not clear the above mentioned items. I think that the water pump can be modified, but the fan would have to be removed and efans installed, and f-body or some other form of retro-fit accesory package has to be used. I think there is some fuel rail issues that have to be tackled also.

From my ("How to Build high performance LS1/Gen III's") it states the truck intake performs better down low but the ls1/ls6 intake is better in the upper rpm's.

I think I want one of those multi stage intakes. Like the one on the Cobra Mustang. I forget exactly what they call it. Know one makes one of course, but it would be cool to see one produced and offered as an aftermarket unit.
Though I'm sure it will not happen.

you talking about the same thing that honda and nissan motors have also with the butterfly valves in the intake to act as short and long runners. most people wind up taking those out so that might be why they don't make one.

This is the intake off my 6.0 LS2 SSR that I have on e-bay. It has the raised runners like the truck intake and is supposed to flow as much as an LS6 intake. It comes with the intake, fuel rail, 32 lb injectors and the engine cover. If you have the electric throttle body you might be able to use the new LS2 throttle body, if not a company makes an adapter plate to mount the 3 bolt throttle body to it. The throttle body opening is 90mm.

LS2 intake is nice, but the last pic I saw of them, it necked down inside to like 78mm from the 90mm opening.

Leave the truck intake alone. You wont like what the LS1/6 intake will do to your low end.
