Is a 2004 LQ9 from an Escalade with 12k for a $1000 a good deal or could one be bought cheaper?

That is an awesome deal. Just make sure it is an LQ9 and in good condition. These are hard to come by, and I never see any that cheap.

The last one I saw was complete (except PCM and harness) and had the stock 65 attached... $3800.

Default question

Not to be a dummy...but how can I tell if it is a LQ9 for sure, or maybe its a LQ4? I do know its coming out of an Escalade, so its got to be a LQ9.

The only way that I know is to take a plug out and try to see if it has flat top piston or dished.
Dished=lq4
flat=lq9
