lq4 overhaul
#1
Hey everyone I am new here but not new to engine rebuilding.I have a 02 2500hd with a 6.0 lq4 4x4 stock with a coi,285 tires,tb spacer and superchips programmer. The truck has 130k on the clock and still running strong. The problem I am having is that it is making metal in the oil. What I mean is that every time I change oil I keep finding that the oil looks like it is full of graphite. The oil is change like clock work every 3500 miles. Always use ac delco filter and mobil 1 delvac 15-40 due to heat tolarance because I tow alot.I have a good core to build but needs to be bored. I was looking for cam suggestions, and a good place to buy pistons and rings.I work for a gm dealer but and stock style pistons at my cost is 450.00 plus rings. Also every where I turn most oversize pistons require floating wrist pins and I dont need floating wrist pins. I think it will clean up at .020 oversize but most likely will end up with .030 due to parts. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks

Well this isn't going to help you much, but id stay away from that 15-40, its too thick for these motors. it wont flow through the bearings and everything as well as the recommended 5-30. Imo its doing you more harm than good. Alot of people on here tow heavy loads even with modded engines and use the factory weight oil. Oh and i would say a 212-218 114 cam would be good for you, good power increase but still keep the bottom end for towing. Look on the right at the sponsors and you should be able to find some pistons. Texas speed should have them, if they aren't listed give them a call im sure they can get them. Good luck.
