The LQ9 will have flat top pistons, giving it a compression ratio of 10:1. The LQ4's pistions have dishes that make compression 9.4:1 stock.

A 6 liter will drop right in with no tuning. If you make modifications to it, such as a bigger cam, tuning would be recommended.

Well, you will not find a LQ9. Those are rare compared to the normal 6.0 in the 2500+ series trucks.

As long as your 6 liter is a 2001+ model all parts are a direct swap.

Here is the information I have thats out of a book I bought. As being quite unfamaliar with these engines in general I wanted to purchase something that explained things to me. The book I purchased is called CHEVY LS1/LS6 Perfomance by HP Books. They do an extremely nice job of breaking down all the casting numbers that fit the 4.8 - 6.0 and LS series engines. All the way upto and including the C5R racing heads.

With the above information shown in that book, it appears to me that the 317 casting numbers are a good option but the 035 casting numbers are the best for an all out forced induction application.

Does anyone have a set of these for sale ??? I am seriously in the market for a set of 035 casting number heads !

BigMike, your truck should have an LQ4. The LQ9 is only in the Silverado SS and the Cadillac Escalade.

P.S. LQ9 are really hard to find!!!

Did that book happen to have any information on the cam specs for the LQ4 and LQ9?

I am seriously thinking about tracking down and LQ9 at this point and putting it in a 94-96 Impala SS.

No, it probably doesnt (Not LQ9, probably LQ4), as the article I scanned shows, its only in the 2 models mentioned above. Thing to keep in mind is, the LQ9 heads are a LOWER COMPRESSION part for the LS1 series engine. The LQ9 heads on a 6.0L truck motor dont reap the same rewards as it does on an LS1 engine. Hence my desire to put them on the LS1 I want to drop into my Typhoon, add those heads and the turbo I want and I will be in heaven.

WhiteDiamond, I really think that if you are contemplating a Gen III engine swap you should consider purchasing the book, the information is invaluable, and yes there are specifics about almost the entire engine.

I bought my book off of ebay for like $<20. Here are some links for one identical to what I purchased:

HTH, still looking for some LQ9 Heads if anyone has any they want to part with !
