lq4 bottom end refresh?
#1
just got a 30k mile lq4 longblock to swap out my 5.3 with, going to be boosted about 13-15 psi. shift points will be really conservative at ~6100 rpm. i've never done any bottom end work but i figured while i have the engine on a stand it would be really easy to access. so since it's going to be boosted, should i upgrade rod bolts, install fresh bearings in the bottom end? or is it even worth it having only 30k miles.

I would do a compression check on it to make sure everything is fine. If that is good, and the cylinders look fine when you pull the heads, I would leave it. You might want to pull a main cap off to look at the bearings, but if you pull the center cap containing the thrust bearing you will need to seat it back in place. If you plan to boost it down the road you might want to gap the rings.
