did you use the gasket that came with the headers or use the gm gasket? I used the gm gasket and I swear I can hear a exhaust leak but its very small only dectectable when driving. I want to know if the gaskets that came with the headers are good or do I need another brand. It was a pain the first time to install I dont want to do it too many more times. The leak sounds like a small puffing sound near the drivers feet under acceleration.

 

if it sounds like its under the floor board that would be where the header bolts to the y pipe.

 

I thought about that and I tightened the S*^% out of those bolts but it didnt change. I used the supplied gasket from lpp on that connection but the stock manifold didnt have a gasket on it. Also remember these are shorty headers not lts so its hard to figure out if its the y pipe or the header to block

 

I reused the stock gaskets and have no leaks..

 

Look at the thickness of that header tubing and compare it to the stock iron manifolds. The stock manifolds are very thick to insulate valvetrain noise. That ticking/puffing noise you're hearing is normal.

 

never thought of that. Does everyone one else have this same ticking and puffing from their headers?

 

yes ive heard the ticking noise before, and it really stood out when i put the cam in, its normal to me.

 

My truck sounds like a sewing machine inside the cab.

 

I used OEM gasket too and applied small amount of thermal silicone to make things tight. Really happy.

 

yeah i have that puffing noise ur talking about... but i assure u i have no leaks at all
