well, revs for sure wasn't it. It never got above 3krpm on the new cam.

cheap oil wasn't it...I run castrol 5-30 full synth. I did change oil immediately after the cam install.

The cam was a "regrind" sold by a former forum member, so it would well have had a defect. I suspected the cam was the issue the whole time, since that was the only thing not stock.

Either an aftermarket cam grind issue like you metioned, or left over shrapnel from the first problem?

I'm not too bummed. I know a lot more about the external and internal workings of this particular truck now, and I also found a zero mile rebuilt 04 LS6 for 1500 bucks that I am getting this weekend and should have it up and running in a few days. I'll probably just get a tune and run it as-is for a while and later turbo it as originally planned with my lq4.

Anyone know what the compression ratio of an ls6 with 0.030 milled heads will be? I also wonder if the engine should use stock, or shorter pushrods. The seller, who got it secondhand, doesnt know if the pushrods are stock length or not, but thinks so.

Searching the forums for ls6 doesnt exactly yeild the most precise results.

use your stockers as a starting point. Bolt down the heads with whatever gasket that you want. Get a marker and color in the top of the valve. Torque down two rockers only, and spin the motor over. You might be able to get away with 7.4s

That was my plan. The heads are already installed. Hopefully they used a thicker than stock gasket to make up for all the milling. I'd be happy to just run stock pushrods on the z06 cam, which is kinda what I wanted to do with the lq4 to begin with.
