Default looking for some supercharger answers

I am looking to get a ATI Procharger, has anyone heard anything that goes wrong with these? I have heard they are awesome and my truck is just to slow for me right now, but if I get it how long will my stock tranny last? I have 69K on the clock right now. Is that too many miles to be supercharging my engine or am I just asking for trouble?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Most of the problems with the ATI Procharger seem to be tuning issues. You really need bigger injectors and some professional tuning to get the most out of that system. The transmission's durability with a 4L60E is an issue any time you add a supercharger, but Prochargers don't seem to be as bad because their boost is made at higher revs. With a Procharger you'll probably want a high stall converter to help the low speed punch and a shift kit to help the transmission's durability. My personal preference is for the Radix supercharger.

great supercharger, just look forward to doing some plumbing modifications, it sucks! as for your tranny, i would at least but a kit in it or it will not last long. i lost second gear not long after i put mine in the old 4.8. you will certainly enjoy it though!

Definatly make sure you are tuned well before you just blast down the road. I put mine on and three days later lost the motor. It could have been avoided but oh well. I had hypertech programing at the time and had the rev limiter set to 6200. I floated valves and well that was that. It makes a differance. I love it.

I wouldnt worry about blowing about your diff, but posi will definately help you hook up with that blower. I think the ATI is a great blower. You definately need a set of injectors and custom tuning. Also do E-fans and run your own intake tubing. Maybe look into getting some full length headers as well. A shift kit and at least a vette servo will help, but with your mileage you may want to get a built tranny now so that its ready for it. and the converter will definately keep your power up out of the hole.

The reason I went with the Radix Magnacharger setup was reading about all blown motors with the Prochargers. But,I've had a lot of transmission problems with the Radix's almost instant boost. As far as,supercharger setup go the Radix system feels like a 500 cu in motor, while the Procharger feels like a highly tuned 350 cu in motor. They both make about the same hp but with a drasticly different power curve.I do think that the Procharger has a higher power potential depending on how extreme a setup you want to run.

Anytime you add the amount of horsepower a supercharger produces something can happen. It pretty much depends on how aggressive you drive, how much boost your running and how good your tuning is. Most guys that use their trucks as a "normal vehicle" won't have a problem. The kit will give you plenty of extra power to merge onto the highway, pass and tow as needed. The chances of something happening are greater if your motor spends alot of time shifting at redline. This can potentially tear up a motor, tranny or both. It's rare, but it can happen. Boost is addicting with more power being just a pulley change away. Most addictions will get you into trouble and boost is no different. Alittle feels good, alot feels better but to much will be expensive.

The 4.8/5.3 truck ATI kit makes 8-9# of boost. It comes with an FMU, Pro Pump fuel pump and two core intercooler. No tuning is required but if your going to increase the boost level or run this with other mods it will be good to run larger injectors and have a custom program put together just to be on the safe side.

ATI's kit for the 6.0 comes with the same parts but is rated at 7-8#.
