Got the results back, and they don't look good. I'm pretty sure that the LS1 has spun a bearing.

Right now, I'm not sure exactly what I want to do, but I'm thinking a Scat/Eagle 383 stroker might be within my budget. Might try to save a little extra and get a forged 408. At this point, I'm going to do a little more research and try to figure out what I have to spend and get the most I can for that money. Thanks for all the suggestions and support!

Not driving the truck is KILLING me. It's almost to the point of sitting in it and making vroom vroom noises.

That must suck. I know that would kill me. Good luck.

Scream-As you know I was almost positive that I had bottom end issues some kind of rod probelms probably a spun bearing and this happens 4 days after getting the LS1 installed! The messed up thing is I was watching Horsepower TV Saturday and they had a LS1 that had a spun bearing and they were dealing with it! HMMMMM! So after my block gets completely disassembled the rods are fine bearings look damn near new but there was a little piece of metal like a ground strap sitting on a piston. It is slightly dimpled but can be easily fixed. I think it was either when I blew the piston on the 4.8 one of the TR-6's was slaughtered and it could of been that or when the heads were getting machined something was caught in the heads! I dont know! So Im hoping for you it is somthing besides lower end. We both had the same problem at the same time and we were both sure it was rod related and it wasnt for me so it snot going to be for you either! Keep us posted! Oh yeah if it comes down to doing somehting major do the 383 that would be a bad *** setup man! That is my plans for the future!

What is the price difference between the two? Its going to be nice whichever way you go. I wish I couldve made it to Orlando, but I had to do paperwork all day again.
Maybe another meet and greet later this year when our setups have progressed a little.

We now have 3 F-bodies (autos) trapping 120mph+ with a 370ci or 398ci motors N/A. That's pretty damn good considering their mods.

I really don't wanna spend the extra $1k+ on a 408 si I'm going the 370ci route. Although I'm FI and that does make a big difference.

I've seen some 383 rotating assemblies (Scat/Eagle/JE) going for just under $2k w/ rings and bearings. Assembled 408's from HPE are about twice that, but they are assembled and ready to drop in.

Can anyone give me a ballpark as to how much the machine work would be? The block would need to be checked and honed to 3.90x. Would the difference in paying for machine work and paying for someone to assemble the shortblock still be cheaper than getting a pre-assembled short block?

Also, is the Lunati stuff really worth twice the price? I'd like to be north of 450rwhp N/A if possible. Will the Scat/Eagle stuff be okay for what I'm doing?

The Eagle stuff will be absolutely fine for what you want Mike. It would be good for twice what you want actually, maybe more.

Let me say that I really like the LS1, and while I'm not opposed to putting an iron block in the truck, I really like the aluminum block--and I already have it. I guess I'm looking into a few options, none of which are looking too promising right now:

1) 348: 3.905 forged pistons, stock crank and rods
2) 383: 4" Eagle crank, 3.905 forged pistons, stock rods
3) 408: package from HPE (forged internals, iron block)
4) 294: put the 4.8 back in w/ a cam and a few more bolt ons.

I'm sure that a forged 402/408 would be ideal, but I'm not sure that I can fork out the cash for one right now (or any time real soon.) Getting the crank and pistons seems cheaper, but would I get eaten alive at the machine shop to rebuild the LS1 w/ the new crank/pistons? Would forking out the cash for forged pistons even be worth it if I'm going to keep the stock rods?

I'm not 100% sure that I even need to pull the motor yet, but I'm trying to prepare for the worst. I hope to God that I'm getting worked up over nothing though. Anyone care to offer any suggestions?
We sell longblock/shortblock packages from 346-436 cubic inches, Iron block, LS2, LS1 block. We use, Lunati, Eagle, Cola, Manley. We can build a motor for your budget, within reason. Give me a call, or shoot me an email with your needs.
