Yeah the G80 isnt much fun unlocking at 20mph - trying to swing the back end around or drift just plain doesnt work....as I found out last week and did some accidental minor offroading. I'm probably going to put in an Eaton shortly.

I haven't seen a broken G80 in an HD truck with the 10.5" or 11.5" ...that doesn't mean someone hasn't broken one...

But as everyone else said...the 1500 G80 sucks ***, it (like the 4L60E) was never intended for the abuse they are put through. I have an Eaton LSD in my F150 now and it's sooooooooo much better in comparison to this shitty G80 in the Z71 it's not even funny.

Supposedly the G86 LSD is quite a bit better than the G80. I had the G80 in the last truck and didn't like it at all. I would say either get the G86 or just get an open diff and throw an Auburn in there. G80 is really only meant for low speed off-roading.

the g80 is the normal locking differential used in s-t-c-k trucks and utilities (except those with quadrasteer and ssr). here's info on it with a cool video.

G80

the G86 is the limited slip unit used in quadrasteer trucks which is just a normal clutch type limited slip due to the dana 60 used.

I just had my G80 replaced tuesday with an Eaton. It was stuck in lockup and when they took it apart the spider gears were chewed up bad. I like the Eaton alot better.

The G80 in your truck was an Eaton mechanical differential. See the link in the post above for more information.

My G80 blew and took the R/P with it. It was under warranty, but i opted for the 4.10s and detriot. My RT had an LSD in it and it was ok, but it love the 100% locking of the detriot.
