Default A little confusion with heads.

I want to do heads and cam on my 2001 tahoe, with the 5.3, but i dont know all the facts i should know before doing something like that. I have 1999 LS1 heads off of a camaro, I was told that they have a smaller combustion chamber, so they would raise my compression. 5.3 = 71cc?? Ls1=66cc?
I am just wondering if my information is correct, for i am having a little trouble. and will a stock intake/head gasket bolt up to that?

72cc is on the 317 castings
5.3s i do believe are alot lower and ls1 i think is like 66 of 67

and what are the numbers on those heads 853? better results are from 241s

your 5.3 heads are well enough just toss inthe 2.0 valves sine they flow the same!! even with the 1.95 valve

5.3l heads have a 61cc chamber. 5.7l heads have a 66cc chamber. Not to mention the 5.7l heads chambers over hang the 5.3l bore. This will force you to use the 5.7l head gaskets and that will further reduce your compressin ratio. Stick with modding your 5.3l heads or consider the aftermarket Edelbrock heads we make specifically for the 5.3l engines.

Good luck,

Richard
