Default limp mode????

do we have a limp mode in our computers or something? i was coming home around 2am saturday from a friend's house and i got on it pretty hard and it jumped outta the hole and then kinda bogged and the SES light came on. ever since it has felt like it was struggling to get into the higher RPMs. at first i thought gas...fuel filter or something, but my old fuel filter had like 45k on it and it was fine, and this one only has 10k on it. anyone have any ideas? maybe it's time to finish up the new motor and throw that bitch in. help me out here guys.

I have no expirience with modding obd II cars only some short years of trying to get them back to factory spec (which pays better <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> But what limp mode is in easy terms is basically what open loop is. The computer will only look at the throttle position and coolant temp sensor for a predetermination of engine load. Other inputs 02, IAT, and maf are ignored. On chysler products the trans may stay in 2nd gear only.

ok, thanks for the reply...but does anyone have any idea what is WRONG here? the light is still on, but when i was leaving a movie theatre about an hour ago i got on it with it in first gear and it got totally sideways and spun completely through 2nd gear...it was smokin. it's runnin better now but still has the light. is it going in and out of bad moods or something. one day it runs shitty then the next it hauls ***.

i didn't notice if it flashed when it came on. it just stays on constant now. this lean code you speak of, if i unplug the battery and let it reset the computer will it get rid of it? why would it have thought it was lean? my truck runs PIG RICH. weird.

9 out of 10 SES lights come from a loose gas cap. Autotap knows all

<img border="0" alt="[worship]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_hail.gif" /> AUTOTAP

The MIL inditcator or SES is going to stay on once a condition has been seen twice in alot of cases. Yeah people have jerry rigged ways of pulling the efi fuse etc etc. The only time a engine light will disapear is after 45 run cycles with obdII. The only way you can tell which trouble codes the PCM is storing is with a scan tool. So I have no clue what is wrong with your truck, but the SES light will only eluminate given their is an emissions output defect, granted a terminal engine problem could cause this it has to effect tailpipe emissions. And loose gas cap is often a case, so is a customer overfilling a gas tank. Fuel expands and will expand itself into the charcoal canister causing the same code as a loose gas cap. One awfull misconception about this industry is that we can simply look at the scan tool and all problems will be solved, thats little the case. As said before PO446 is the same code for a loose gas cap, leaking fuel tank, improperly functining charcoal canister etc.
best of luck

The message center on the dash will usually say "reduced engine power" if it goes into limp home mode. Did you take a look under the hood to make sure everthing is connected? If you jumped on it before the light came on there is a chance you might have seperated a connection for the induction after the MAF.
