Default lifter preload Q

ok

Lets say i did a cam heads combo but i hear tappy noises from the sides of the front fenders and i also here it from 1000 - 4500 rpm after that the exhaust drowns out everything... its louder when warmer too

ive been to about 5 or 6 mechanics all that say its fine or that i shouldnt chase a problem that has nothing to do with performance.. but i didnt buy a cam to make really annoying tapping noises all the time.....

at this point even though the car is pretty rediculously fast id rather not even drive it, it pains me to say that cuz i love my escalade . im not in any way mechanically inclined so no i will not check it myself dont even ask me hahaha im not like that because i will prolly strip or break everything on my way through the valve covers

so here are my questions...
- what should i do?
- who should i go to to fix my problems ?
- anybody here feel like taking a trip to Canada to help me fix it?(experienced cam swapers only)
- if i have the wrong lifter preload will i do damage to anything?
- do i have to replace the lifters again?
- i have PRC .675 lift springs can anybody show me a video of there truck/car running with these springs and or tell me if they are really audible?

i really dont know what to do..

AND ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY

Please help me.... someone

After market cams have a more aggressive lobe then stock.. You have more lift, durations... Next you have pretty heavy duty springs in there.. All that combined makes for a noisy drive train.. Headers will also make or enhance the noise.. It is just the nature of the beast... All giving that the correct length push rods were used ect.. How many miles has it been driven? If it was something out of spec that much it should have had some problems by now..

I run that same cam and have minimal valvetrain noise.

One problem is those valve springs you're running. Those are completely incorrect springs for your application, and as John said, probably contributing to the noise.

The noise you're describing just sounds like typical header tick and enhancement of valvetrain noise due to the thin walled header pipes.

Basically the noise is annoying and I've always hated it myself, but it's a tradeoff for the performance. Get one of your stock iron exhaust manifolds and look at how thick it is and you'll know why....

Also new springs are going to be a bit louder for a few thousand miles... Id say drive it around for a while and check back

Those PRC springs are much too stiff, and are unneeded for that camshaft. They're also putting extra stress on your lifters. The spring is slamming your valves into the seat harder than an appropriate single beehive spring would.

I use PAC 1218s and have been for almost 2 years with the cam, but the 1518s would be a better choice.

That being said, I think what you're experiencing is just typical header and valvetrain noise. There's not really much you can do about it.

Roller rockers may clear up some of your noise. I have Prc .650 springs with 1.75 ratio roller rockers and pacesetter headers and I literally have 0 valvetrain noise. And my cams a good amount bigger then yours.

Just a thought, but if thats a patrick G custom EPS ground cam you may be using the wrong length push rods? I know mine came back with a 7.425 required PR length, and I think that most of his cam's do. If the PR's are too short then that would cause a lot of noise.

BTW I sent you a PM yesterday.

OK good call. How much longer are they? Do they warrant the .05" difference?
