I am currently running the stock exhaust and looking to upgrade. I don't want anything TOO loud, however, I am looking for a nice sound with improved performance. What cat back systems do you guys recommend? I was leaning toward the gibson but haven't really heard too much about them. My friend has a flowmaster on his '96 Z71 and it is way louder than what I am looking for. Any imput would be appreciated.

Well, shall I start off this arguement? hehehe
My vote is for either Magnaflow or Dynomax.

i know a few people with the gibson exhaust and they all seem to like them.cant give you any power numbers other than they all say they helped. had another friend with a goat 360 and the supertruck gibson and he hated it said it was all noise and no power.so if you go gibson stick with single or dual.

Never been a fan of Gibsons. Heard one or two of their systems, and just think its ****.
And w/ the Flowmaster your friend has, you can always get a different chamber setup. You can get like 70 series mufflers instead of 40 or 30 series and it'll be a different sound. Esp being the 40s are two chamber, that're pretty agressive sounding. Magnaflow and Dynomax arent bad, I just prefer Flowmaster. I think more than a few guys on here have Magnaflow systems and love 'em. And they dont sound too loud either, which is a good thing. (well, sometimes )
I say go to some of the websites and see if you cant find some sound bites...that'll @ least help you somewhat in knowing what it sounds like.

If you want performance as well as sound, then get headers too. I'm not really sure just putting on an entire cat-back system will do much for performance, especially since you could hinder power by installing piping thats too big. I just put on Flowmaster 50 series when I first got my truck, and its perfect for me. Not very loud in the cabin and has a mean, deep sound, like a real V-8 I think just the flow master muffler gives around maybe 10HP, if that, according to the box. Like I said, go with headers and a true dual detup with flowmaster 50 or 70 series if you dont want it too loud. Guys I've talked to on other forums have gone with ASM headers(very expensive mind you) and true dual setup, gained upwards of 22 rwhp and 25 ft/lbs of torque
good luck

A Dynomax SuperTurbo is a nice sounding, cheap muffler. It isn't too loud, cruises nicely too. I really like the Ultra Flow also, straight shot great for total power.
Flowmaster makes a great muffler. I just prefer others. I have a 50 series Big Block on my F-150 and it SUCKS. Tons of resonation at ~2000rpm. My Z71 came with a 40 series Delta Flow and the sound is way better. Hardly any resonation at ~2000rpm. If you go with a Flow, get it with the "Delta Flow" option.
I have heard many good things about the Magnaflow too, I am going to put one of those on my F-150 here pretty soon. They are a straight shot internals design too.

Magnaflows are very quiet. I have 2 of them. I had a Dynomax Ultraflo welded 1 in/ 2 out and it had way to much resonance to the point that you had to speak up to have conversation at hiway speed. It sucked for long trips to. It was a performing muffler though, probably one of the best.

i am one of the few here that has a borla catback. i like it, wish it was louder though. still has a nice mellow tone, sounds moderately aggressive when you want it to. i know there are better exhaust systems out there than mine, but i really like mine. looks good too. you can see pics of it in my signature. comes with a drop in filter too (if the part # ends in the letter "F"), it is just like the K&N reusable drop ins. kind of costly though, but it is stainless steel which i recommend. i live in an area where they salt the roads alot in the winter, so the stainless is beneficial to me.

Fast 4.8 do you still have that muffler? Is it single 3 inlet and dual 2 1/4 outlets? Also guys, in my experience at least, using the big chrome tips tends to make the cab drone even worse for loud mufflers.
