is it telling you bank 1 sensor 2 or 1? i had bank one sensor 2 I changed the 02 sensor then the intake gaskets at 18k miles? but i did. Then come to find out it was my tune. Waste of money.

OK sorry for the massive delay, I finally have the thing shifting right. (TCC wire in the wrong place.)
The exact code is P0174 fuel system too lean bank 2. we tried clearing the code and it resets almost immediately, (engine at idle, temp at 87).
Any suggestions?

almost immediately? check those connections if it's a fast code set on a lean code. Like blownchevy and richard are getting at, the pcm needs to see a "trend" in the lean fuel trim adjustment.
The beauty of closed loop is the pcm makes adjustments to your part throttle fueling and depends on those front o2's to do so. So if there is ANY leaking before those sensors and after the intake, they will show a leaner scenario than is real. In reality you are going rich due to over compensation.
Huge what if and maybe though. LOL If you have messed with the wiring at all, I'd start there. Then work your way up that exhaust and header looking for pre-O2 leaks.

Also I noticed while driving the car yesterday and today that the exhaust from the cat back gets really hot, I mean really hot, to where the floorboards can almost burn you and the paint has bubbled in places.
I am guessing that it really is that the o2 sensor is bad and that the engine is running rich since the o2 sensor is not sending the right signal back to the computer and the extra fuel is heating up my exhaust since it is not getting burned in the cat.
Does this make any sense?
I also need to pull the plugs but I am guessing I am way rich based on the responses.
Also does anyone know how to test the sensor to see if it is working? I have an Ohmeter but do not know what range I should be in or which wires I should be checking.
I know I am being a bit lazy here since I have not bought a manual yet but what lbs per foot or inch should the plugs be torqued to?

Also I unplugged the o2 sensor and then drove it over to Autozone and pulled codes an had the same code as listed above. I had the codes cleared and with the o2 still unplugged I drove a few blocks and my check engine light is still off.
What does this mean? Shouldn't the code trip right away in this case?

I had that exact issue with my ls1 camaro. I cleaned my MAF, cleaned filter, tightened header bolts, checked for intake leaks, etc..... I ended up replacing the o2 sensors with corvette sensors- forgot what year. They have a higher voltage than the stock sensors. Have not had any issues after I installed them.
