Launching?
#1
What is the best way to launch an extended cab with a 4.8 and an auto. Would holding the brake and trying to stall the converter be better than just punching it off the line? Does the tow/haul button do anything for full throttle acceleration? The truck came with the optional locker rear end. the truck is completely stock by the way.

i don't know anything about the best launching method. but i do know that the tow/haul mode will hurt your 1/4 mile. when i went to the track to time my truck, i did several passes with and without tow/haul just out of curiousity. and it ended up hurting my time by a tenth of a second. that's just my personal experience though.

from my experience with my SC brake stalling it to about 1150-1200 RPM, then let off the break and wait a brief second before mashing the throttle will give me the best launch. however, i have the stock 235/75 GY tires and an open rear with 3.42 gears. yur setup may be a little different and therefore have to be launch different. the best thing to do is find an empty backroad and just practice to see what works best.
if yu can get yur launch down it will definately be better than launching from idle. the tow/haul button will hurt you because it makes the truck shift sooner. some people swear it makes the truck shift harder and one guy has even gone far enough to say that torque management was deleted when he pressed it. i find both of those hard to believe and have never gained anything from using tow/haul for racing. tow/haul is there for just that, towing and hauling.
hope that helps. and if you don't have deep pockets don't stick around here too long. you'll catch the mod bug faster here than anywhere else. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />
