Default L92 Sectioned Head Pics.....Porters beware!

I posted this on the Tech side and since there's a lot of interest in these new style heads I thought it might show some of their inner workings. Follow this link.

Whoa, they are kinda thin...but just cleaning up the runners would be a good start i guess. The runners look good to me as far as shape and the short turn radius....no wonder they flow so well. Well that and the HUGE valves they use! Great info there Richard, will be interesting to see if they will be a cost effective option to the Edelbrock or similar style LS6 style head. Of course like we have talked on the phone about before, you would still have to build an engine around these heads if using them on a Gen III.

Very good info Richard. That kind of info is pretty much a must for a head porter. I knew they had to be thin due to the extreme light weight of mine.

Wow ... I was wondering some of the things that those pics answered for me.

To me, the exhuast port looks nasty where the valve guide drops down into it. It looks like there could be lots of improvement right there.

Maybe its me, but those look quite a bit better than the other as cast LS heads we've had to work with over the years. I'm pleased to see that. You can see the casting irregularities on these heads are no where near as evident as on the older heads.

Richard, you touched on a good point. It's becoming evident from looking at more and more of these new heads that the casting drift is less than the early LS1 heads and even the later LS6 and 6.0l heads. GM has got the lineup of the seats, ports and chambers very consistent.

I have cleaned up a few sets of LS heads in the past. Not really porting, but spending way too many hours blending that casting line in the intake runner and removing the rough casting material from the runners. Looking at these heads, it would be a breeze to clean them up. Even the surface of the chambers appear to be much smoother.
