Default L76 vs. L92

Whats the differance between the 2007 L76 6.0L and L92 6.2L. I know the bore is differant but they have the same heads and intake does the .2 litre make that much differance. Or do they have differant cams?

The L76 is 367 HP and the L92 in the caddy is 400 HP. What gives! Tune maybe? I think its the cam. Looks like the new L76 Vortec max motors should make 400HP easy if thats the case.

I think they are useing variable valve timing on the caddy.

as far as power goes i would think the higher comp ratio 10.5 vs 9.6 and the extra .2l of displacement.

also the regular fuel vs premium has to effect the tune

as a side note both motors use vvt

The L76 engine is the new Vortecmax in the 07 Silverado trucks.

Vortec MAX 6.0L V8 engine features:
* From the family of redesigned Gen IV Vortec V8 engines
* Thundering 367 horsepower @ 5500 rpm
* 375 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4300 rpm
* More horsepower than any other half-ton 4x4 pickup(1)
* More torque than any light-duty engine offered by Ford(1)
* EPA estimated 15 city/19 highway MPG in 2WD and 4x4 models
* Deep inside the combustion chamber of Vortec engines, high-speed air movement generates a better fuel-to-air mixture
* Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology that optimizes combustion, enhances low-end torque and high-end power, promotes fuel efficiency, and helps lower emissions
* A cast-iron crankshaft with undercut and rolled fillets
* High-flow cast-aluminum cylinder heads that feature a low-friction roller-rocker valvetrain
* Electronic Throttle Control provides outstanding throttle response, greater reliability and improved efficiency
* A faster, smarter Engine Control Module with more memory that better synchronizes the multitude of engine operations that occur every split second
* Hydraulic engine mounts for improved vibration isolation
* A coil-near-plug ignition system for a precise delivery of high-energy spark

Actually, the L76 is 10.1:1 per Chevy web site. Not much difference there.

http://www.chevrolet.com/silverado/specifications/
Specifications: Silverado: Trucks: Chevrolet

I think the cam is different.

I thought the L92 was the only engine to get the new heads based off the LS7 head.

I called my local dealer and they said each L92 head assembled cost just under $600.00. Not a bad price if they are all what they are cracked up to be. Livernois motorsports should be testing them soon. Anybody know the specs on them, like the combustion chamber size.

There $390 bucks on www.GMpartsdirect.com P/N 12582713 for the head. But you need the L76 or L92 intake the Gen III intakes will not fit those heads.
