L31 revlimiter
Hey guys.
I have a 1997 reg cab shorty with teh Vortec 350 L31 engine.
I have gotten EdWright to set my rev imit to 6100 rpm, but I am only getting 5800 rpm. (He did input 6100 rpm, as I verified this with my Tunercat).
When I flash my PCM with a 6500 rpm rev limit I also am getting a 5800 rpm rev limit.
What is the highest rev limit any of you guys have seen on a 1996-99 GM L31 305 or 350 truck or 1997-2002 L31 G-Van?
There are a bunch of people who have or are doing the same Marine Intake conversion I have don, and a few have lumpy cams and the valvetrains to support 6500 plus RPM.
This 5800 rpm rev limit ceiling is very disheartening to say the least, some of us have big bucks tied up in this and dont want to be forced to go forced induction if we dont have to. This is a stubling block for many American and canadian Gen 1-E Vortec owners.
I wrote Allen (great guy) and he told me he has also ran into this but there is no fix currently available/
The whole point of the Marine Inake was to be able to use "regular" Bosch style fuel injectors and ditch the crappy GEN 1E Vortec internal 19 lb/hr poppets which limit NA power to around 330 rwhp or about 400 hp at the crank. All the while using the stock PCM to control the injectors and the rest of the powertrain.
If any one has any info or any guesses as to how we can get around this 5800 rpm ceiling, your help would be much appreciated.
Fire away guys.
thanks a million
