I've seen this happen before...and exhaust actually leaks past where the cermic separated from the metal...it makes a ticking noise. If the plug comes out, you should be fine...might have some chunks of the electrode embedded on top of a piston or something.

As far as shorting the cylinders to locate a knock, I like to use the injector connectors instead of the spark plug wires...easy to get too, not as hot (if you're removing the wire from the plug down by the header), and alot less voltage...I've heard stories about guys grabbing HEI wires and arc welding their junk to a fender!

Thanks guys for all the input.... The sparkplug thread was gone, I just replaced the spark plug and walla...... its fine... thanks for all the input though
