Got a problem on my 2003 SS I noticed that when I am rolling about 20 or 30 mph and I mash it down to kick it into first gear I am seeing between 6 and 8 degrees of knock retard but the weird thing is that when I punch it right off the line from a standstill there is no knock retard at all and there also isn't any when I kick it down at passing speed like 60 mph. I am only seeing it at a 20 or 30 mph roll. Anybody have any suggestions?

 

What do you mean by Knock retard???

 

It would help if you list your mods...if any.

 

On my Predator in the diagnostics the knock retard on there says 6-8 degrees and when it does my truck feels doggy as hell

 

Do you have any screen shots?Are you using HP Tuners.

 

right now i just have a cam 216/224 551/551 115, headers, k&n filter, and a shitty predator tune. getting a tune from nelson soon.

 

You know, my buddies 03 SS had a tune from PCMforless.com and it was skipping at about 30-35 when he would nail it... he switched his tunes out and it doesnt do it anymore....

 

yea that piece of **** predator that I have probably isn't helping any. sorry if I seem a little dumb on this this tuning stuff is a whole new thing to me.

 

I think a dyno tune will fix the problem....It sounds like the cam does not like the predator tune. Probably a little too much timing.

 

Its the downshift. Mine does it too. If I nail it and have it shift down on its own, it will have KR. If I manually shift from say 3rd into 2nd then nail it, I usually get no KR. I think this is some torque management function.
