Knock Retard Sucks
I am convinced that the <img border="0" alt="[guns]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_guns.gif" /> 99 pcm's are crap. I have 7 degrees of knock retard at WOT no matter what I do. I have run high octane gas with a booster still 7 degrees knock. I even took the manifold off today and retourqed the sensors to 160 inch pounds with a wrap of teflon tape. Still 7 degrees of KR <img border="0" alt="[Banging Head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" /> . I emailed nineball so I can purchase his knock out box. Hopefully that will solve the problem. By the way I am only showing 20-24 degrees of timing at WOT so with the 7 KR I am only getting about 13-17 degress at WOT. That has to be killing a crapload of power up top. I beleive I may be getting extra noise from the valve train since the cam install. Hell any ideas? Big Tex how much KR do you get. I know Parish8 has the same problem that I do. Later

What monitor are you using to determine your timing? Atap? EFIlive?
If I remember correctly ther is a TSB for overly sensitive Knock Sensors...unfortunately the tsb merely instructs the mechanic to fill each sensor's valley with rtv sealant to dampen the motor's normal harmonics.

i have a similar knock problem, a few weeks ago i used a tech II just to take some readings. i had 7* knock retard at cruising speeds and whenever i would stall up to launch. the knock would go away about 7-8 seconds into the run. at what speeds are you seeing knock, which gears, and for how long? sorry about all the questions, just curious!

Well, who knows anymore. Without changing a thing, one day I'll get 1-2*, then I get to the track, and I show 7*. No changes.
Thank god for giving me LS1 edit. I can now get 23-24* timing even showing 8* KR while spraying. When I show 1 or 2* of KR, my timing is in the 26 - 28* range <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
I am real tempted to get an 00 or 01 tune thrown on a PCM with my VIN, and see how well my truck responds. I am running 01 injectors now anyway, so it should just plop in.
*** You could go the Gonzo 6.0 route. He had Ed W just turn off the knock sensors. Doesn't even have to hook them up. I think his timing is a little high right now though. Gonz, you out there, whats your opinion?

<img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> Hey jlwz71, I just did some N2O 80hp shot testing tonight and 8* KR the whole time from about 2500-5300shift. I did tuning with AutoTap and making sure O2s were good and they were (.92-.94volts) My ignition timing was peaked at 11* <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> WTF!!!
I think the valvetrain is causing something? It is noticeably louder even from inside the truck.
I will be getting LS1Edit soon, but here is the question...How will tuning get rid of KR unless it is all just false knock? Would the only true way to get rid of it to be to run race gas?

Silent1 as soon as I go WOT through all the gears it stays 7 degrees no matter what I try. I don't have any pinging around town or any KR when cruising, but as soon as I nail it bam 7 KR.
Tex I don't think I want to get rid of the knock sensors totally. May get some crap gas. Tony emailed me the knock box info and as soon as I get Christmas out of the way I will get one and let everybody know the results.
