to tell you the truth I would make a home made intake and spend the money somewhere else. it will probably cost 30-40 to make one and the k&N cost about $250 or close. spend the extra 200 on something or save up and put a tune in.

Mine seems to be a little quicker and the sound is a lot different...like a big 4bbl with no air cleaner. I don't have any numbers...K&N says 5 to 8% rwhp gain.
I don't know about 30 to 40 bucks...you can pay that much or more just for a drop-in. A friend of miine with a 98 5.7L 3500 paid 50 or so for a K&N replacement that's about the size of the one that comes with the FIPK.

The total parts expense for my ram air set up was about $25 and I already had the hole saw. That setup netted 1 1/2 more pounds of boost and near 30 rwhp. Thats over my airaid setup with airaid tube.

I bought on because I found on brand new for under $200 and it looks better than the stock box. It makes a cool sound but you wont hear it if you get a exhaust!LOL! I personally saw better throttle response nothing much but since it was my first mod so I could feel little ****. A far as HP when I had a dyno done last month just to see I had a run with it on and then with it off and it was good
for 2hp(in a metal building with fans blowing into the grill on the road going 50 may be more) so dont get it if your looking for any real power but if you want it because it looks better than stock it a good part and you shouldnt have to replace the filter so thats a plus!
