That is so true! I did it today after seeing these posts and about gagged. It was nasty! I put it back on and made a little wedge to put under it. It looks good and seems to function a little better. I'm thinking about designing something a little nicer in place of the supplied ram air piece. I ordered a new hood so i might do something a little tricky with it. I'll post some pics when that happens.

I also got to drive the truck in some heavy rain today and it passed with flying colors. I was a little nervous at 1st but after a little driving i started flooring it to see if it would suck some water in. Nope.

don't remove the entire cover, just notch it where the "tongue" goes through.

or just return it and get a kit that fits right. no way im would cut on anything to get an intake to fit right. it should fit and look good from the manufactorer. just my 2 cents

Hey man.... Nice truck a buddy of mine just put the complete Vararam kit on his truck new 05 silverado. He noticed a lot more response with the Vararam than with his K&N Gen. II. The tongue is suppose to run behind the grill not on top like you have it, just notch you a big enough hole for the tongur to run down and un-hook your battery for the computer to reset and you will notice more power and a cleaner look. I run K&N Gen.II kits on all of my vehicles, but I was really impressed with my friends Vararam especially after he un-hooked his battery.

I totally agree. There kit is on the right track, but they need to test better proto-types before throwing their kit at us performance enthusiests/ nuts.
They could have designed it to be stronger, look better, and fit better.
I think we the consumer are the test dummies for Vararam's product.
On the performance side of things....they seem to have figured out something good and new in the design of their filter box.
I'm not sure, but can the system be used without the flimsy ram air scoop?
From what I read about Vararams CAI kit, their biggest technology was in the filters container design. The ram air was just used to get in cooler air.
Is this correct?

Jim

Just my 2 cents:

I've run the VR for 6 mos and have been pleased with the gains but ticked at the quality. I requested a new batch of bolts and nuts and another red coupler (since these weren't with the kit) and never recieved them, even though their customer service responded fairly promptly. Afterwards I bought my own and fashioned up a decent mounting system. Next on the list is to get a new intake tube and try to find a K&N to replace the foam filter currently in there. All in all I'm happy with the gains, even in this LA heat I'm able to turn the 20s over quite nicely

What exactly are you talking about here? What do you knotch a hole in? Do you mean knotch the radiator top cover so the intake will pass under it? Do you have any pictures? Thanks..........Ward

Yup you have to notch the radiator cover where the scoop goes over the core support so that air can flow throught there efficiently.

Is this how you're supposed to install it? The pictures on their site show the cover completely removed? Thanks.........Ward
