Sounds about right, I noticed a loss in low end below 2500 rpms or so with the mid 222/226 versus the stock 196/207; however, the truck still pulls any hill on the highway effortlessly in OD, so no big deal. Everything's a compromise....I gained about 1100 rpm of powerband up top, so it's a pretty good tradeoff.

i have been looking at the vinci ultra torque as an alternative (080)
I'm running the Vinci Ultra Torque 210/218 551/551 116. After I put the cam in, I could squawk the tires a bit. When I put in a CAI, I couldn't anymore. I lost some low end with that. I put in the Magnusen and now I can say this engine is complete. The Ultra Torque is a great cam if you're ever considering boost and I'm sure the 212/218 would be good, too. Just tons of low and mid range torque and not too shabby up high either. I'm very happy.

I have this cam on my '06 5.3 tuned by Justin @ Blackbear. Idle was turned up 25rpm over stock and it's barely noticeable, but definitely lopes a lot less than with the stock idle. I assume if you turn up the idle around 50-100rpm over stock you won't notice it at all.

It also depends on what engine you have in your truck.

thanks for the feedback guys, i dont really have plans on going fi. i just want a great all around dd cam with a smooth idle something with good torque because i tow with it. the 080 sounded like it was the way to go but i want to be sure it had a smooth/undetectable idle because im in cali and am going to have to smog it and i really want no issues whatsoever. if anyone has an idle clip of a 5.3 with the vinci 080 (non fi) i would love to hear it.

I wonder what my engine would do if I put the stock air box back on? The throttle response definitely went to **** after the CAI install. I will try it out, I am sure the top end will suffer though.

Both stock and the 212/218 share 114 LSA. Once warmed up the 212/218 does not sound stock. If your idle was turned up, the Smog ref's would detect it. Been there done that...lost out on $40. I lived in Fairfield Cali and that OBDII scanner detects everything.

What about a LS6 Cam? A little bit of loss on bottom end, but the gains mid range and up would be sizeable over stock. With the 117 LSA it will even idle like stock right?
