For $800!
My question is this...should I slap the tranny in with just a shift kit and converter, or maybe throw some Alto Red Eagles and Kolene steels in there for good measure.
Parish--which shift kit did you get, and did you install it yourself?

Jeez, that seems steep for a used tranny to me considering I scooped up the Ford equiv of a 4L80E...the E4OD/4R100...for $50 here with about 7K mi. But I guess that's the going rate.
Anyway... order this kit from Summit, TRG-4L80E or click here ---> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WD1V

Scream I think you should be just fine with the stock with a shift kit. I don't know your plans for the future but that tranny should hold to around 450-500 rwhp and maybe more. strong damn thing. I wish they came stock with the 4l80e

To me, $800 is a steal.

Is it from a '01+ model? I was reading about a few changes GM over the years and the most recent revisions were in '99 or '00. Mostly stuff like oiling, slight changes on the shafts, I think the sprags/roller clutch, etc.

Ah kickass, so it's got all the revisions.
Now about the clutches...if you can increase the flow to them in there (there's FOUR packs!) with that TransGo it should hold up fine. I'd run it until it goes "pop" then I'd build it up. Then I'd get Alto Red Eagles and that Wide Ratio kit.
Remember 3/4 trannies are longer and wider so the clutches have more surface area to them.
I bought the one for my F150 as I'm tired of not having shift points exactly where I want them and a stupid dual concentric input shaft setup of the AOD. If I went to a solid shaft I'd have no lockup...so that sucks. With the E4OD I'll have ratios of 1st, 2.71:1...2nd, 1.53:1...3rd, 1:1...4th, 0.71:1 which are great! Lower than my AOD and still close enough for great acceleration. All I need now is a Baumann controller and converter...then I'm good to go. Well I need a shorter drive shaft, as the E4OD is ~6" longer than the AOD!
