Default Just bought a 4L80E for the Tahoe

I'm tired of breaking 4L60E transmissions,so I just bought a 4L80E.Has anyone done this swap before?I've got the transmission,a stand alone computer,a torque converter,a crank spacer,a dipstick tube and a driveshaft yoke. Can anyone think of anything I'm forgeting?

I am glad to see you are stepping up. I will probably do the same one of these days. I think you have it covered with the exception of maybe the mount/crossmember. May have to have one from a 4l80 vehicle and your driveshaft will have to shortened. Other than that it should be a fairly simple r&r job. What kind of converter you got?

i am working on one right now, i got a tranny harnes from speartech that along with some programing is suppose to let you use the stock computer, that cost $150 wich i think is alot less than the stand alone computer.

sounds like you have everything you will need to get started, i have no idea if your cross member will work but i figure on just making one if i have to. the exhaust, spacificaly the y pipe might not fit anymore. not sure if the shifter cable bracket will work. probably want a nice big cooler. i am going with a stall while i am in there, that should help make up for the crapy 1st gear.

is the tranny you are geting built or just a stock one. i am going to try the stock one and see what it can take, might put in a shift kit though.

my motor/tranny project starts tonight, pulling it all out and hopefully start puting it back in saturday or so, i dont have my stall yet though so that will limit how far i can go.

4L80E is a built unit from BTE racing with a high stall lockup 10"converter.

your gonna need a new trans crossmember, the 80 is about 3" longer. the only other things you dont have is a shorter driveshaft that your gonna need, and the exhaust mods which have already been stated so, i think youve got it all. your shifter should work

I paid about $1700 for the built transmission and $650 for the converter. That's considerably less than they normally sell the transmission for.

DAMN that is a realy good deal. i figured 500-800 for the core and 2500 for the build then 1000 for the converter.
soundes like a realy good deal did you get a hook up? this makes me more eager to do it.

The 4L80E comes in heavy duty trucks and has a much higher factory torque rating. Some builders claim that their built 4L80Es can handle over 800hp.
