Isky Cam in a 99 Sierra 5.3
#1
Hi All,
I know there are a lot of bump stick threads. I have read many of them and learn a lot. I have not seen this particular cam brought up before, and it is one that my friend at the engine shop recommended.
Truck is a 99 5.3 4x4 Ext Cab, Daily Driver, Long Tubes and full magnaflow. I will be doing Rods & Springs, No converter at least for now.
Any feedback on running this cam?
Is the lift excessive/worth it for a stock 5.3 daily driver?
How long would I expect PAC1218 springs to last?
Stock timing chain ok?
How much MPG loss?
Thanks for any input.

Great cam for an NA build without a stall. Very mild cam NA, but has seen decent rwhp gains in a NA 5.3. Pac1218 springs should be checked every 10k miles or so. I would suggest double "gold" springs if you are going to drive a fair bit. I would swap the stock chain for an LS2 setup. Much stronger than stock and cheap. If you don't want a stall ever then keep duration under 220. After doing a cam you will need bigger injectors. The stock 99 injectors are only 19lbs. 24s or bigger should be fine for now. I think a 216/220 would be a little better if you plan on staying NA. MPG will depend on your foot. 1-2 mpg loss is to be expected.

Should run pretty dang good.
Not exxessive at all. still have a good bit of low end and still pull up top.
Im runnin 5? years on my Isky 615? springs. ill have to find that PN again.
If your goin in the engine, might as well throw a LS2 chain and a new Oring for the pickup tube. Cheap insurance.
If the tune is dialed in and your not silly on the throttle, should get better mileage.

Good cam, if it was me I would bump the intake up to a 212 562 lift, would be worth some extra power and still work with the factory converter. Contact stock48 on here and he can get a custom cam from them

Thanks for the responses all.
I didn't realize I had 19lb injectors... thanks for pointing that out!
So, after changing injectors... will the truck run well enough to get me the 7 miles to the tuner?

I would suggest doing everything else, except the injectors, then when you get to the tuner swap the injectors in the parking lot if you need to. You can run the cam without the tune or injectors. I would also suggest a bigger fuel pump the stocker is pretty weak.

i may have some tbss injectors for sale soon...
and also some ls6 springs... let me know if your interested. as far as stated above x2 i wouldnt run a cam over 220. thats what i have and without a stall it was to tall. but now with a stall it hooks up good

Alright, I kind of had this on the back burner. Looking at doing it again...
In regard to the intake duration suggested... what is that going to do to my low end torque?
Also, I've been told I should just run LS2 springs. Again, much reading on the internet... .570 max lift which is to the max on the exhaust valve. Spring pressure concerns for this cam?
I am not crazy about having to check valve springs all too often, but I realize that is part of modifying.
Any further input from anyone?
Thanks
