I can verify cause its what I'm running now. I took a 5.3 block to machine shop and paid 400 to bore, home, cam bearings installed, rings, all bearings, and to polish crank. I bought some stock 5.7 rods and pistons and installed them on stock 5.3 crank. I think it is alot stouter than a 5.3 but that's my .02. If you have any other questions just pm me.

Ya I know that...when I went to go pick up the motor the guy didn't know it was a 4.8 til I got it home and pulled the heads off...then again it was also my fault for not checking the pistons before I left his place...

so i just went to the machine chop here in whitewright, the guy has never done work on an LS motor before but insists the whole bottomend needs to be changed to make a 5.3 a 5.7, he thinks my 5.3 block would need to be bored .3xx.
how much does the 5.3 block need to be bored to make it a 5.7? anybody know?

If that guy has never dealt with a ls motor I would carry it elsewhere. You have to be careful boring it out that far. I forgot how much they take out but the stock 5.7 bore is 3.898. You can use the stock 5.3 crank and use some used 5.7 rods and pistons. I know cause that's what I did on mine. I replaced the rod bolts with arp and plasitigauged all bearings.
