Interested in Yank - what else do I need?
#1
I'm thinking of getting the 3000 stall from tybrne on the GP (depending how much it is and if enough people buy...) but what else would I need to go along with it? Do shift kits and servos really help the transmission or is that something that everyone would like to think? If I were to get either the shift kit OR servo - which one would work well with the stall? I am looking for firm at WOT and nice and smooth at regular driving - as I put about 60 miles on the truck everyday.
.5 ET reduction w/o adding power sounds like a good deal to me

There is a truck exclusive Yank GP going on right now in the truck classifieds. I would have bought one from tbyrne last time but they did not respond to my last two emails for whatever reason. You can add a shift kit if you want but I am not. You don't have to add a big transmission cooler but it is a really good idea to do it. I have the Corvette servo and HPP3 tuning and it shifts great.

I may go in on the Yank GP too, and since I think the trans has to be dropped, I'm going to add the transgo shift kit and billet servos as well. Might as well so I don't have to pay twice on the install labor. Even with torque management it should shift a hell of a lot better than before.

I will order one if 9 other people get in on the GP - as far as the servos and shift kits......do they both do pretty much the same thing and firm the shifts? I would like it to be firm but not too rough - I would think adding both the servo and trans go shift kit would be too harsh......
I also have the factory separate trans cooler - which is always a bonus since I'm going to put in the 3k stall

I don't think the shift kit and billet servos would be too harsh. Just don't put any washers in the 1-2 accumulator. Hit Man X has some good $0.02 on this. At WOT you should get some nice hard shifts, but at half throttle it should be nice and smooth.

You guys asked for it...Taken from my post over on LS1truck:
get the TransGo installed with NO washers in the 1-2 accumulator. The washers only increase the firmness of the 1-2 shift. Also what trans place you choose, get them to see if your 1-2 accumulator piston is plastic or metal...if it is plastic get the metal one!
It is pretty nice under 2500rpms then when you get over that the shifts are very quick and tight...how they should be without any additional stress on the internals. It is still tight going slow but VERY livable.
I have both of the billet servos and their shift quality increase as well as speed justified their cost. The 'Vette servo makes a decent difference but if you are working the trans over, just do it once the right way. The 'Vette one is only the intermediate one, there is no 'Vette OD one. I had problems with my overrun clutches coming on fast enough on a 3-2 down shift, now with the TransGo/Billets my 3-2 and 4-2 are nice and tight.
With my TransGo with no washers and both billets and FULL TqMgt I just about break the 33" tires into a bark at WOT, it was easier before with the one washer in the 1-2 but that proved to be just too harsh for the daily commute.

just my .02. I put my transgo in myself which was kind of complicated but went well. I put 2 washers in the accumulator and it shifts a little to hard. It is kind of annyoing at part throttle but whatever. I also installed the billet od servo as well as the 1-2 billet servo. Over-all it helped shifts out alot. They are VERY chrisp and will easily bark my 285-75 BFG allterrains at part throttle and when it shifts under full throttle and boost will almost uncontrollably spin.
It was money well spent if you ask me!! Just don't put in 2 washers in the accumulator.
