Default Intake Question...

Quick question guys, Will the intake off my 98' Z28 fit/work on my buddies 2002 4.8 liter 305 V-8 Silverado? If so what all has to be done to make it work. I noticed today that he doesnt have an EGR, is there anything else that is totally different? Would he see a big gain if it did work...

no the intake doesnt work, at least not with the clutch fans and fan shroud. i would rather use pvc pipe and a k&n filter and make my own if i wasnt going to buy one.

oh yeah and the 4.8L is a 294ci

Hey Bryan, I took that question to mean the "intake manifold". So I'll answer this way:

Yes it will fit, but the trucks intake has more flow than the stock LS1 intake. It almost flows as much as the LS6, but is set up for more torque. If you did change it, you would at least need to reconfigure your wire harness, fuel rails, and throttle body.

ok guys, thanks for the info. I was talking about the manifold. So the truck manifold flows better than the standard LS1 manifold, but not as well as the LS6? Wow!!! I didnt think it would by looking at it. So if we did change it, would we notice a loss in torque, but a gain in HP? Brian, thanks for also clearing up that it is a 294

well considering i have a 4.8L too, i would say your going to want all the low end torque you can get. im sure the other 4.8L owners agree with me. So, basically your putting on an intake that takes away from an area you already need more of AND it doesnt flow as good.

i'd stick with the truck intake, maybe just add a little extra additive to the air flowing through it

Go to the 6th post down in this thread and look at the flow numbers for the ported LS1** heads. They have numbers with the LS1, LS6, and truck intake attached.

https://ls1tech.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ulti...c&f=1&t=000464

It shows that the truck intake is about the same as the LS6 intake flow wise until around .500-.550 lift and then the LS6 starts to pull away. The truck intake absolutely KILLS the LS1 intake at low lift and still flows better at higher lifts.

What would happen if you put the truck intake on an LS1?

i assume it would flow better (if its a 98-00 that doesnt have the ls6 already) and give more low end torque. but i think there are going to be clearance issues unless you have a cowl hood
