Default intake fit questions after head work.

i am fixing to have my heads worked on, by getting a 5 angle valve job, mild porting and polishing, and shaving them about .030. my question is will i have any fitment issues with the intake after having the heads shaved. and what type of head gaskets and intake gasket should i look into. any help is appreciated.

flat surfacing of .030" won't effect intake fit at all. The stock mls head gaskets and stock intake gaskets work well. You can probably reuse your intake gaskets.

We've milled over .045" without fitment issues. You should be fine milling .030".

okay now knowing that, how much should i mill them. i will be racing quite a bit, and i will have flyer do the tuning to watch for knock after the raised compression. i am looking for the most out of it without sacrificing driveability and reliability. and is there anything else i should have done to them while i have him working on them.

I went close to .050 and didnt have any problems. I needed shorter pushrods.

do you think it would be beneficial for my setup to go .050. or should i stay around .030 or .040. keep in mind im looking for the most power i can make without sacrificing realiability.

Something else worth mentioning is the TR220 cam. You could go .030 on the heads and go with a thinner Cometic gasket, that way if there were a problem, you would be able to go back to a thicker gasket and be safe.

Assuming you've got a 5.3 I could see going .060 with that 220 cam. I would check you p/v clearance after install, if you have issues you can always flycut they make tools for doing it with pistons still in the block. I think we can take alot of material off before issues with p/v as we have dished pistons, the ls1 guys run 12:1 routinely with flat tops and our 5.3 heads milled .050-stage 3 with huge valves
I dont see why we cant get away with a moderate cam like the tr220 and have compression in the same 12ish range. I really think cams like the tr220-224 and lpe gt2-5 love compression and no one has even touched the limits on this forum

So I say go .060 and show those boys in MS and LA whats up
