Installed Walbro now truck takes extra time to start??
#1
I just installed a Walbro 255 in-tank pump. Since the install Ive noticed something. When the truck sits for a while, like overnight, It takes 2-3 extra revolutions before it starts. After the initial start it will start on the touch of the key all day. I am pretty sure I did a good job on making sure my hose connections on the pump were tight, I even pressure tested it prior to install.
Is this normal? Im thinking maybe because I had to cut the fuel bucket to retrofit the high vol pump??
Should I have to get my PCM reprogrammed after changing to a high volume pump?
I just ordered a FP gauge just to rule out my regulator having problems, although I never had this problem with the stock fuel pump.

Ive always been told to turn the key to the acc on position to prime the fuel system first. Sounds like when it sits overnight the fuel in the lines leaks back so it takes a few revolutions for the pump to get fuel back in the lines.

There is a check valve in the sending unit that holds fuel in the line so that it wont bleed down over a period of time. something might have gotten disturbed when you switched it out. Ive never seen it to be a problem, just customer saying that it takes a while to crank after it sits. Unless you want to fix it , id say just turn the key a few times to get it primed up in the morning.

I looked up some info and I think that it is built into the pump but im not 100% sure. Pull the hose off the fuel psi regulator and make sure there isnt any fuel in the line. All we do here at work is replace the fuel sender for this problem since the pump is built into the sender for us.
