Default improve air flow on air intake

i have a K&N FIPK. i recently took out the metal tray that the stock air box was bolted to. i was hoping that this could bring in a little more cool air. the only thing i am worried about is the possibilty of water getting into the filter. anyone ever had problem with this? i am also thinking of running 3" diameter tubing from the recovery hook opening to the air filter well. has anyone done a similar or better RAM air mod?

I removed my metal tray as well. I have taken my truck offroad a few times, and have had no problems with it. I even had my truck in water about 4 inches below my door handles and she still didnt stall out. Scared the crap outta me when the speedo said 70 and I was bearly moving spinnin the water around like crazy. Never try to impress a girl by driving through high water, if you have no bumper (rollpan for me)/fuel in the tank, the rear can and WILL float very easily ! lol

I dont know if removing the plate helps, but I figure it does on top end a little bit?

I left my plate under there so I woundn't get water or any dirt from underneath in there. What did the bottom of your plate look like when you removed it? If it was discusting then I'd leave it. If not then you should be ok.

I honestly feel I get plenty of air around the headlight since I keep finding bugs stuck in the filter. And I've said it before but I get alot more water on the filter with this type of intake than I would like.

I tried a little trick once though and stuck two plastic license plates up behind the headlight when I was taking a long trip with it pouring down rain and I could actually feel the loss in power.
