...but I'll ask anyway. What is the best exhaust to use on a reg cab 4.3 2004 model. I DO NOT want a crappy sound, just a little better flow. I would even be open to maybe another factory muffler from another veh is someone could recommend one. Of course I would be open to an aftermarket muffler as long as it sounds OK. I have heard 40 series Flowmasters on V6 and its just to much, and other FM's that sound OK?

a chambered muffler on a V6 is gonna produce the ricer sound at higher rpm's...
IMO a longer (18"+) Magnaflow is gonna be your best bet as they are pretty mellow, yet very free flowing as they are a straight thru design.

I agree with tyler, a long Magnaflow will have a nice tight sound and is a straight through design. I picked up a couple of Magnaflows fairly cheap on ebay btw.

I had a 2000 sierra with a 4.3 and I had gibson shorties with a gibson cat-back and it sounded pretty good. it had a long, round straight through design mufler. got it from stylin concepts. Only so much you can do with the six banger though.

"best" is hard to define... everyone has an opinion one way or another. Some guys swear by turbos and some superchargers - each have their own pro's and con's (although I understand the turbo guys eat alot of asian food, particularly RICE ) hahaha.

but you cant go wrong with magnaflow - they offer the best of both worlds, flow and sound... and if you plan on going FI in the future you wont have to ditch your muffler, like you would with something with baffles, like flowmaster.

Is keeping the stock muffler on an option?
