Default im getting boosted!!

well i think my n/a days are just about over. ive found a great deal on a polished radix and i cant pass it up. i just have a few concerns. first, since i milled my heads .045 do i need to go with a thicker head gasket to lower compression? if so how thick should i go or whats the thickest cometic makes? also, is the tranny gonna hold up if we just put some tq management in it and pull some timing on the shifts? if not what all do i need to upgrade? all help is needed and appreciated. also what are some estimates on hp/tq with my setup with 10psi? thanks

Thumbs up

I think your head gaskets will be fine. The compression ratio is probably not too much higher than stock. You probably have close to the same compression ratio of a LQ9 6.0L. With the added compression it will be a bit hard to achieve 10psi safely. I think your compression ratio will be fine, just don't aim for high psi #'s, I'd be looking more towards achieving reliable & effecient HP & TQ gains. A smaller blower pulley will help you get more psi, but you will need it tuned for the smaller pulley. You may even need to have your PCM reflashed for a 2 bar map with the higher psi you are after.
Also, if you will be pumping close to 10psi, you will definately be wanting to have your crank pulley pinned. If not, your crank pulley will spin on the crank under load. Magnacharger sells the crank pin kit. $70.00
Will this kit be coming with the Radix tuning? If so, you might want to see how you like it before altering it.
If not, keep at least 25% of TM in the program. You can have your tuner fine tune your shifts to your truck's and your liking. You just don't want it too harsh on a stock tranny. Keeping some TM and having a knowledgeable reputable tuner will prolong the life of your tranny.
one more thing or so. Will you be doing anything to your tranny? Converter, Shift kit, or better servos? I would at least do the shift kit and the 1-2 vette servo and 4th gear sonnax super hold servo (FLT transmissions has these).
If you do decide to do a converter, keep it tight. The Radix doesn't like loose converters. 2800 stall converter max. I'm doing a 2600 PI converter.
Hope this helps you out some.
I almost forgot, if you will be running more that 7psi, you will be wanting to use a meth kit for sure to keep detonation away. It will also help you add more total timming.
You will find most of all your boost questions and concerns in the Forced Induction section here.
Good Luck & Welcome to boost.

Jim

.06 is the thickest made that I would go with, Jim .045 is ALOT to mill off heads. That will bump him over 10:1 easily(just dont feel like doing the calcs) have fun with it Im getting boosted too

yeh, i am with ya. i would crunch some #'s before you throw 10#'s at stock internals with 10:1 compression.

on the trans, throw in the a vette servo and shift kit. if you have tuning capabilities at your command, leave all tq management in until you get the feel of everything and are happy with that setup. then you can go down to 25% and so on. baby steps.

(cough cough get a wideband cough cough and fuel pressure gauge cough cough)
