Question Idle? Whistle? What?

Try this one. I replaced my valve covers and gaskets, then I start my truck and it doesn't want to idle -barely or not at all-... and then my carb starts whistling like crazy...? Either there is something that I'm missing or it's just a coincidence that this happens at the same time. Any thoughts? I'm thinking idle mixture, but I don't know about the whistling.

Looks like the gremlins are striking back, again.

Mines a reman. Rochester Q-jet. It's been working just fine, and that's what makes it all the more puzzling.

no punt intended but it sounds like you got a vaccum line mixed up or unhooked .

That's what I was thinking, but I've checked the lines. I'll go back and triple check them again just to make sure. Unless I pulled one off by accident, the only one I know of that might be giving me a problem is the line that goes into the back of the carb. I had to undo it to get my valve covers off, but I made sure it was snug when I put it back on.

make sure none are cracked or split from dry rot also and cracked when u moved them .pvc out ?if u have 1.it has to be rlated too vaccuum the valve covers wouldnt do it ,unless 1 came out of place maybe.but likely u would be losing oil .if on top when u put in they like too drop down.good luck

Found that I was sucking air under the EGR, thus the high pitch whistling... and probably the reason it wouldn't idle.

Problem's solved, and now she's running better than before... amazing what some gaskets and sealer can do.
