Default idle problems

I have a 01' 6.0L 4x4. I haven't had it very long but ever since I bought it the idle has been really low. It idles around 400rpm in gear and sometimes when backing up it will die on me. wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

Have you tried changing your idle air control valve? I think that's what it's called. On your throttle body, by the TPS. My 99 did the same thing, and that is what finally fixed it.

just my .02 - good luck

You could try cleaning the throttle body first and see if that helps. If the throttle body and passages for the IAC are gummed up with carbon, it will create idle and runability problems.

Ditto on cleaning the TB and IAC. The idle control is mounted to the TB and is super easy to remove and clean. I have been cleaning the TB since about 25K but started to have surging idle. Turns out the plunger for the IAC was equally crusted with black gunk. Some just remove the complete throttle body to clean it on a bench. After you are done, you should perform the Idle Relearn procedure.

Engine up to temp.
Block wheels
Start and put in D for 5 minutes
Put in Park for 5 minutes
Shut off.

That straight from my Helms Manual
